I have a free trial offer for gold but it's trying to charge me

I have a "exclusive offer just for you" for a free month of Xbox gold. But when I go to process the payment it's trying to charge me $10 a month. I just don't understand why it's showing me this promotion, but not allowing me to actually use it... false
advertising? Scam?

Gold Membership Codes

For anyone who has a Gold membership with Xbox Live, have you seen these coupon offers? Supposedly, you can either get Xbox free or get a free trial offer for as long as one year. There might be a catch, but maybe they're just doing it to promote the Gold membership. Has anyone ever gotten a free trial?

All consoles do come with a free trial for up to 3 gamertags. Since the console is pre-owned it is possible that all 3 of those trials have been used. The free trial that you are referring to would actually show you as a gold member and it is not. So there
may have been some error during sign up if it did offer you the free trial. You would need to try creating another new account to see if it will offer the trial again.

The Xbox Live Gold free trial offers a large portion of the Xbox Live Gold benefits, however, some benefits of Gold do not apply during the free trial.

if you did not get free trial for gold the only thing you can do is create a new account (up to 3 free trials per new console). but you have to make sure you have a valid form of payment on the account or you will not be offered it as the system needs it
for future billing but you can always turn off the auto renew before your 30 days is up so the card does not get charged, but it IS needed to get the free trial.
