Same thing has happened to me.

I don't think that my offline profile had a gamertag? I just had my nickname ('Van' ), and when I clicked the 'connect to xbox live' option and signed up to that it changed my nickname to my new gamertag.

If I go into settings - storage - local storage/hard drive my saves have my new gamertag as the associated profile. But when I start the game it doesn't give me the option to continue, only start a new game.

I have bought an xbox live gold subscription to see if copying the saves to the cloud and switching the games default to cloud storage, but it still won't give me the option to continue.

Please let me know what other information I can give to help troubleshoot this

I noticed that i had multiple updates that i could install so i switched the game that was updating and noticed that another game(the golf club) was getting over 30 mbps but then i paused it and continued to download modern warfares new update and it went
back to less than 1 mbps

When it kicks me to the dashboard I just start the game up and continue with my campaign on whatever disc I'm on. It's no big deal to me, I haven't noticed any issues with the game because of it.
