I get forced to have 4 numbers in gamertag, even though name isn’t taken

So I have two microsoft accounts. One setup for minecraft, one for almost all other games i play.

The thing is, I have a new gamertag I use on other platforms, and so while I try to change my gamertag to that name on this account, it forces me to get the last 4 digits after the name.

However, if I were to change on my other account, it does not! And I would prefer to have the correct gamertag on this account (the one setup for most games) rather than the pure minecraft one!

Any ideas why this occurs?

That's the issue. When you check for the tag, the system is basically holding it in anticipation of you changing it. You'll need to wait a bit and then it should be released again so you can change it on the account you want it on.

I tried changing names with the other account (the one where I don’t actually want to change) and saw it was avalaible and without the 4 numbers, but realised I was on the wrong account and cancelled.

Switched accounts immediately and tried on the correct account, but then I got the 4 numbers afterwards. Got confused, swapped back to the other account, and there I could change without having the 4 numbers after

Are you checking to see if the tag is available with one account and then trying to change it immediately afterwards on the other?

Oh ok thank you but if said gamertag isn’t taken but yet still shows as isn’t available or profanity is there anyway to fix that because nothing in the gamertag is against COC and isn’t taken. Also if it’s taken wouldn’t it like me use a suffix with numbers, it won’t let me do that either

Giving the option to pick the set of 4 numbers has no effect on the already established length of our gamertag's. (15 characters)

And, why would people gripe about choosing the 4 number hashtag, when we are already forced to have it?? If it's a name that's taken, granted, I'll give you that. But that's irrelevant since there are 10,000 possible combinations to choose from, if choosing the specific numbers on the hash-tag were allowed on just 1 set of 4, per name (4 rows, 0000 to 9999; 10^4)

Also, I never said anything about wanting the GT to be longer than 15 characters. I simply wish to choose the the 4 numbers that they force upon our nametag. That's all.

There would not need to be any major overhaul to enable the selection of 4 (#) numbers within our 12-15 character name's, especially since there isn't any sort of increase that requires it. We would only be swapping the pre-picked numbers in and out of our tag's
