I downloaded a game through Steam but want to launch it through GamePass, possible?

Alright, so, I bought Final Fantasy XV on-sale from Steam today, not knowing that it's on GamePass, which I currently have a subscription too. My plan is to refund the game on Steam and just play it on GamePass, since I'm already paying for GamePass.

My question is: do I HAVE to redownload the game in order to play it through Gamepass? My ISP's data-cap is pretty crappy and I'd hate to have to wait till next billing-period to play it. I made a similar mistake with Black Desert Online a few months ago,
and was able to fix it by moving the entire directory out of my Steam folder and into its own directory. Is something like this possible with GamePass?

you would need to re download the full game, what you want to do cannot be done.

Steam games and GamePass games, go into 2 very different folders. The game pass folders are often locked away or hidden. There is an option to do a "move" from one drive to another, but that's the only option.

A solution that worked for me is downloading the game through Steam, and the Xbox App. Then launching the game through Steam to verify it launches and closing then closing the game. After that I launched the game through the Xbox app, it worked just fine after that. I have no idea why this worked for me, but it did. A small solution hopefully that works for you and others too.

Hello!

The gamepass app and steam are different launchers. Then you need to download the game again in the Microsoft Store and run it through the gamepass app.

Thank you. It happens with any gamepass game. I am indeed uning the Xbox App to download/install/launch your Game Pass Games. I am using Windows 11.

On a side note. I have no issues with purchased games through Steam as games do run perfectly.
