    I recently have purchased the 'Minecraft: Java Edition' I have logged in using my microsoft account. When I start to play the game asks me to enter a username even though I already have an account with a username on it. It also won't accept my username as it says the username is taken already.

    I'm being asked to buy Minecraft: Java and Bedrock edition although I have already owned Bedrock for years and I have Java on my laptop.

    The Xbox edition of Minecraft in the screenshot is still the Bedrock edition, is it not? I should have access to Java through owning the Bedrock edition, and I don't understand why I wouldn't be able to play it if I played Java in the past with my Microsoft account without having to buy Java.

    I am able to sign in just fine the issue is once I click "Play" it asks me to enter a new username even though this isn't a new account.

    I see. That's weird. Because if that's the same account you use before, it should not ask you to create a new one. Have you tried resetting your game or Launcher?

    If it's the same issue, I advise you to reach out directly to the Minecraft team for further assistance aside from assigning a new username. You can send them a ticket here https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/requests/new
