Since the USB port puts out a max of 5 volts at 1 Amp or less, it is highly unlikely it was an electrical shock. You touched metal and discharged static electricity most likely.

Hey Travellintroll , I did a little digging online and this is what I found. Asia uses use a 240-volt electrical infrastructure; twice the voltage coming from outlets in the US. Devices not intended for this voltage level most certainly will not survive
even a tentative plug in. Canada uses Voltage: 110-120 Volts. You may have to buy a power supply to be able to use the 110 - 120 volts or you could get a voltage converter.
