I changed my age, and can't do features I use to have.

I changed my age which was orginally over 18, and changed it under, and now I can't access some features I use to be able to access, like custom profile pictures. I thought nothing bad would happen cause my account was origanally over 18, and I think an ambassider said on another post that it all depends on the first setted age. I had already change the account age back to set age, and still can't do anything.

I'm sorry you are experiencing this with your Xbox account. No worries, let me help you sort this out.

Based on your description, it appears the system has detected that your account is a child account.

A child account is registered on the birthdate 21 years old and below upon the account's first creation while an adult account is registered on the birthdate 22 years old and older. Even if you change the date of birth, the system will still follow the original date of birth registered when the account is created.

You can't change your age after the fact. The system won't recognize it. This is to prevent kids from just changing their age to bypass things. if it won't let you use the feature then you will have to wait

I find this a little annoying myself, being a parent I should have the right to change my sons account. Had I known it I would have lied about his age. Kinda crappy that most of the things his friends do he can't because they set up account with wrong age
BUT as a parent if I want to allow my son to do things I can't.......I HAVE to make a new account and pay for it plus my son looses all his game saves and achievments etc etc which in my mind isn't right...and you can't tell me that a rep or manager can't
change the setting.....

Microsoft needs to update or change this feature based on parent control........just a suggestion....and if anyone with any pull or knowledge of this is even being considered I would love to chat via live or email about it.

Alright done that, I also power cycled the Xbox after doing so. It still gives me the error "a child account can't change these settings" as outlined above

As additional info I can link my social accounts to my Xbox account and we now have the same Xbox settings. Something to do with age possibly? I have changed his age restrictions to any age already without success.

Support is correct. It's not possible to change the age of an account once it has been created and change an adult account to a child account. In order to be able to use restrictions for him, you would have to create a brand new, child account for him and
your account would be the parent account. Nothing can be transferred between accounts so he would have to start over.

Are you sure you can't change the age of an account? I just went into my account on live.com, and went under personal info. I changed my age to the age of my child. When I hit "save", it prompted me that I first had to revoke consent for my child accounts.
I didn't continue, but it appears that if I do revoke consent, then I will have successfully changed my age. Then I'd have my account with a child's age, and I could create a new account and make my old account a child of the new account...
