I can't switch downloads to another drive on the xbox app

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble installing games onto your HDD. I'll try to help you with this issue.

• First, can you please tell me what version of Windows you are using and if you have the latest updates installed?
  
• Second, can you please check if your HDD is formatted as NTFS and has enough free space for the games you want to install?
  
• Third, can you please try to run the Xbox app as an administrator and see if that allows you to change the default install location?
  

There are a few possible solutions that you can try to fix this problem.



One solution is to make sure that your HDD is formatted as NTFS, which is the file system that Xbox supports. You can check the format of your HDD by going to This PC, right-clicking on your H drive, and selecting Properties. If it says FAT32 or exFAT, you will need to format it as NTFS. To do this, you will need to back up any data that you have on your HDD, as formatting will erase everything on it. Then, you can right-click on your H drive again, select Format, and choose NTFS from the drop-down menu. Click Start and wait for the process to finish.



Another solution is to make sure that your HDD has enough free space to install the games that you want. Xbox requires at least 50 GB of free space on the drive that you want to install games on. You can check the free space of your HDD by going to This PC and looking at the bar under your H drive. If it is almost full, you will need to delete some files or move them to another drive to free up some space.



A third solution is to make sure that you have full permissions to access and modify the folder that you want to use as your install location. You can do this by going to This PC, right-clicking on your H drive, and selecting Properties. Then, go to the Security tab and click on Edit. Select your username from the list and make sure that all the boxes under Allow are checked. Click Apply and OK.

Or, try to create this path:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages

Basically all of it, I downloaded windows again on an external drive to see if I could format the internal one but that didn't work, I also can't view the general tab under settings on the Xbox app to switch where xbox games download to. I basically can't format the drive where xbox games download cause windows is protecting it and I don't I'll be able to fix it at all. I don't know what to do at this point

It never prompted to format hard drive it just prompted to download the media player preview app which allows me to view files in my hard drive, I can't find any other app that suggests external storage, and the USB cable has a different connection on the
back of the hard drive, where would I find another one of those cables?

Since you have gamepass and if the games are still on gamepass just go download them again.

That's exactly what I want to do.

I can't download them, though, because I installed my old hard drive in a new computer. The app keeps telling me I can't install the games on the old drive, because data from another device is still installed, but I also can't uninstall the old data.
