I cant have friends on xbox live and Minecraft bedrock

I tried following the directions it gave me and it led me back to where I started and still not being able to have friends, I created my account to play with friends but I cant friend other people, anyone who has had this problem, how do I fix this.

is minecraft java or bedrock?, if it is bedrock , you need to get into your xbox lve account and change the permissions, if you have pirated, download an apk with xbox live an finish!,if you purchased it, sing in, if you already made it, i dont know how help you, if it is minecraft java, open in lan for friends, or play with servers (look the correct version and the ip and if it is premium or no premium

My friend just recently bought minecraft on xbox. But it says its has 1.16 instead of 1.14 he cant join us and we cant join him. Why is this? We have the same game. Whats happening? How fo we fix this?

Are you in pc? if you have jave you cant play together, but if you have bedrock ED you can.
