I can't connect to Xbox live after gamer tag change

Hi, I recently spent 10 dollars to change my gamertag and ever since I have not been able to connect to Xbox live on 360 games. It recognizes my 360 as my old gamertag. Any recommendations would be nice! Thank you

change my name gamer tag online

today I change the gamertag online now I cant log in on the old name that connect to my xbox live account. when I tap on the gamer tag I change I get this message . SORRY,THIS PROFILE CAN'T CONNECT TO XBOX LIVE ON THIS CONSOLE . TO FIX IT, DOWNLOAD IT AGAIN.
not sure how I would download it again

Guys & Girls, do the community a SOLID and vote for inactive/banned gamer tags to be recycled!

Lets be real. Nothing last forever, not even us. So why make a gamer tag attached to someone permanently? There are probably some really awesome gamer tags like "Master Chief" where the person is no longer with us(dead) or inactive and chooses to never return to xbox live. Gamer tags that are inactive should be recycled so another person or new generation of gamer can honor it and keep the gamer tag active.
There should be an option to petition for a GT that meets certain conditions. 1) no online activity for 3 years; 2) An email that goes out to the individual with the option to reply with a yay or nay to allow xbox to break the connection worth the GT; 3) of no response to the email after 90 days, the GT is automatically surrendered and made available to the person who made the petition; 4) if the GT isn't taken within 7 days after notice has been made to the petitioner, it is available for anyone to grab. No fees, other than the cost to change the GT in the first place.

I can't get into the account while connected to live to look up the email to rest the password. I don't know the *** email. I know the gamer tag. Why can't i get the email for the tag with that?

You will always need to pay for a Gamer tag change after the initial (first time) Gamer tag change.

This is expected behavior.

To answer your inquiry, if you are referring to the Microsoft account name on account.microsoft.com, there are no limits on changing your name.

However, if you are referring to the gamer tag on your Xbox account, you only have 1 free gamer tag change promotion but the next time you change your gamer tag, it will cost you 9.99 USD.
