I cannot sign in or add new user to Xbox Series X

I started to have this problem after a firmware update back in May 2022. No matter what I do, resetting console to factory specs, or keep games and apps and reset console, I cannot sign in or add a new user. I have contacted support twice and followed their instructions; reboot console, changed mac addresses, used different internet providers, rebooted router/wifi, connected to smartphone, brought my console to someone's else place and connected there, and still no change. When I reset the console I could sign in while setting up the Xbox, but when the console reboots to the dashboard, my account, or any account (my children's accounts (I also tried resetting without adding them)), is not there. I would choose "add new user" and receive the running circle for a few seconds, the screen blinks, running circle appears again and goes back to the dashboard, no chance to enter email and password.

Support suggested I send my Xbox to them for repair but they normally do not fix them but send a new one. Usually, that would not be an issue, but I have the Halo Infinite Edition Xbox Series X and if I send it in and receive a regular black edition, I do not think that is fair, since the Halo Infinite Edition cost $150 cdn more.

I also have the Xbox One S and Xbox One X and I can sign in to both of these.

Since this problem started with a firmware update, I had hoped further updates would correct this issue, but after 4 updates, one major one in December, still no change. I have tried today with the same results.

Has anyone had this issue and resolved it?

Thank you for the welcome and reply.

I am hopeful someone may have the same issue and provide a solution. I have read a few postings where players had the same issue as I do but were able to resolve it by some of the processes I had in my post above. There was one person who still had issues but there was no followup.

I am not hopeful a firmware will fix this as there have been 4 of them since this has happened. There's always a possibility that MS is working on it, so fingers crossed.

My warranty is almost up so I will have to decide what to do, either send it in and suck it up and receive whatever they give me, or wait for a fix.

My other choice is wait for a cheap deal, or get a used Series X and switch out the casing. I am a sucker for special editions and all my consoles are special editions, so this may be my preferred choice.

Hello Pete, unfortunately we don't have similar reports with the Series X Halo Edition or even the regular edition.

When sending it for repair, support informed you correctly, if they don't have the Halo Edition available they will send you the normal edition.

if you do not want to send the console to Microsoft for repair, you will have to wait to see if the problem is fixed in the next update.

Xbox 360 games do not appear to see these users and I'm unable to select them when adding players to 360-games.

User accounts work differently on the 360 (and the 360 emulator on the Xbox One and Series X/S) to the way they do on Xbox One and Series X/S. The 360 had user profiles that needed to be downloaded first.

It's been a while so you'll need to bear with me. If remember you will need to sign in first with this other user you've created, then launch the 360 game. This will download the additional new profile to the console. I think, after this you should be able
to add this player to your game.
