I cannot find my gamertag after changing my account password.

I was getting an error message when signing into my gamertag on my xbox series x. I searched online how to fix this error and one option was to remove your profile/gamertag from your xbox, and then re-add it/sign in. I tried doing this but couldn't remember my account password, so I went through the steps to change my password. I was successful in changing my password and logging in on my xbox, BUT instead of signing me into my gamertag, I was just given the option to create a new profile/gamertag. I am very confused by this, because I am quite certain I am using the correct email account associated with my gamertag, plus my gamertag still exists upon searching it on the xbox live network.

This is extremely frustrating. I have signed into every single microsoft account I've ever made and still have had no luck recovering my gamertag, only the option to make a new one. This also makes me unable to play ANY of the digitally purchased games I have bought over the years. It feels like my games and profile have been stolen from me because of one mistake I made. If anyone could please help. I can provide the usernames of all of my accounts I've used, as well as the name of my gamertag I'm trying to recover, as well as any credit card info that I used to purchase all of my games.

I just want to be able to use game device I bought to play the games that I bought with my own money. It almost feels like my gamertag disappeared or something, or maybe glitched out of my account? I can remember just from my own memory of the email account associated with my gamertag because I would always see it displayed underneath my gamertag name on the xbox dashboard. I am certain of the associated account username, but the gamertag doesn't show up, and I haven't seen anything about attempting to recover a gamertag after being signed in.

Also, the request a call feature on xbox support is not working. I just want to talk to a real human being about this issue. When you request a call back it just redirects you to a virtual assistant, and when you ask to speak to a real person it just replies with a broken link. Why is it so impossible to talk with a real human being?

Hi,

sometimes the system needs some time to realise changes. Changing your gamertag for example could take a week.

It also could be that you have a conflict in the cache of your console with old infos.

You should first try a factory reset (you can keep the games and settings when asked). In the end you'll be asked to download your profile.

Btw have you tried to log in with the new password on the MS website ?

Is it possible to change the main e-mail address associated with my Live ID/gamertag if the e-mail address no longer exists? I did not log into the account for years and now it's gone, so I cannot check the e-mails I would receive for things like password
changes.

And I would REALLY like to change my password, considering it's from 2008..

unfortunately you cannot combine accounts (if that's what you're asking about). you can attempt to delete that account and then change the gamertag on the account you currently use, but it is not guaranteed that you will be able to get it. you can find

Hello,

Even if the email address is no longer functional you can still access your original account as long as you have a password or security questions set.

You can reset your password on the original account :
account.live.com/.../reset

Once accessed you would add the new email address -
support.xbox.com/.../change-email-sign-in-for-microsoft-account

It is possible to move a gamertag to a new microsoft account but that new account cannot have a gamertag attached :

support.xbox.com/.../switch-gamertag-to-different-microsoft-account

I hope this info is useful and you can get to where you want. I would suggest trying to add an extra email to your current gamertag after recovering the password - its an easy option.
