I have tested with setting up a hotspot from my phone and connected my laptop (surface pro 8) and xbox to the same hotspot. Unfortunately xbox losses connectivity as soon as laptop connects to the same wifi network.

If the hotspot has a web-based authorization process you need to pass through (or a login page) upon connection to the hotspot, the Xbox cannot support that.

However, there is a workaround. You can try connecting to the hotspot with your phone, log into the webpage with your credentials, and then change the Wireless MAC address of your Xbox to the Wifi MAC of your android phone. Disconnect your Android phone
from Wifi as soon as you get them connected so you don't get conflicts.

In the Xbox network settings, go to "Advanced Settings" and select "Alternate MAC Address" to change your Xbox's MAC.

Hey Mister Cerb, how is that possible? I was able to connect to xbox live with my android phone and my dad's laptop's wifi, I did get connect to xbox live, and some of my friends are using routers to connect to xbox live, should I change my console's region?

My android phone will connect fast but my Windows 8 laptop will not. It will show my Xbox name when it looks but when I click connect it times out and gives me an error.
