Hello Darrell, by your description we have two situations the first is that you should not be using a controller originating from the Xbox and the second your type of Headest.

There are many controls from other brands that can be used on Xbox without problems, the question now is what type of female P3 connection the controller has and what type of P3 plug the headset has.

There are two standards in the CTIA and OMTP market, the original Xbox controller works with the CTIA standard.

My daughter is having the same issue except she can hear but they cannot hear her. It happened after her fortnite updated. Any answers would be great cause im not a gamer and do not know this system at all.

I don't use my headset often because it picks up my daughter. She has autism and one of her stims is babbling. She says the same thing over and over in a chant. I've learned to live with it, but others find it annoying. If you ask me to I'll plug it in but
that's why I don't plug it in. I didn't realize people wanted to hear me on there. I thought I was acting respectfully.
