I am trying to play minecraft with my daughter cross-platform

I have been trying for weeks to get my daughter to be able to play Minecraft on Xbox One with me playing on Windows 10. Her Microsoft account is in my Microsoft Family. I have read tons of other similar questions on Microsoft Answers, made sure all her security settings regarding online play and communication are set to "Friends" or "Allow", she and I are friends on Microsoft, Our Minecraft versions are the same (1.17.10 as of this writing) neither of us have any Marketplace Packs installed. Even so, I do not have the option to join her game, nor can she invite me to it (from Xbox One). I can invite her to play my game (on Windows 10) and she does get the invite notification, but when she tries to join she gets the message in Minecraft, "this microsoft account does not have permission to join multiplayer games". I do not know what else to try but I am very frustrated this is so difficult.

That sounds to me like the privacy settings in her Microsoft/Xbox account aren't set to allow Multiplayer...far as I know, when a parent creates a child/minor account, the settings default to restricted.

I found a walkthrough of what needs doing to enable the MP on your daughter's account (hopefully)...it is from 2019 so some of the steps may be slightly different/unecessary (fairly certain the Xbox 360 part doesn't apply). Fingers crossed this helps:

Here are the steps

Go to account.xbox.com website. Log in under your account.

Go to "privacy & online safety" page.

on the page you should see your profile and your child(s).

click on the child profile pic, it should be green now.

click the "Xbox One Online Safety" tab.

Allow everything but "buy and download".

Click save at the bottom!

click the "Xbox 360 Online Safety" tab.

allow the first 2 "Accept Friend Requests" and "Online Gameplay".

make sure you click save."

I am considering to buy to my daughter Minecraft to play online with her friends but I am not sure which platform to choose. Most of her friends playing Minecraft on Windows 10 machines. Can Xbox player play Minecraft online with Win 10 players together

Has the Minecraft “Better Together” update prevented some cross-platform group play? It seems that the answer is YES. My children now cannot play in the same Minecraft world, one via Windows 10 PC and one via Switch. The Switch player keeps getting
an "Outdated Client" message when trying to join, despite being able to see the other player's status in the cross-platform dialog box. The Minecraft Switch software is up-to-date.
