    I am trying to associate a profile on an Xbox360 with my child’s Microsoft Account


    I am trying to associate a profile on an Xbox360 with my child’s Microsoft Account which I can then set to be an Xbox live profile such that I can then add a gold membership to it.

    I have tried three times with no luck and so I’m looking for help. These are the steps I have taken:

    1. I’ve successfully set up a Microsoft account for my son
    2. On the Xbox start up screen I have selected my sons profile (on the HDD only)
    3. Selected the Xbox Live ‘sign in’ entry
    4. I have then gone through the following steps (seemingly successfully)Entered his first name followed by his Microsoft account email and password
    5. Confirmed his information e.g. DOB which was then shown
    6. Used my profile / account detail as the parent
    7. Entered my first name, email address and password
    8. Verified my age when prompted by entering; First name, surname, phone number, billing
    9. information including; billing email, credit card number, cc validation number, expiry date and
    10. finally the billing address
    11. Answered ‘Yes’ to the Parent Request Required
    12. Pressed ‘Continue’ to confirm Parental settings
    13. Finally accepted the Terms and Preferences
    The screen goes briefly blank and returns to the start up page, however my sons profile is still not showing as an Xbox live account. It appears as if nothing has changed. Am I doing something wrong? There is a padlock icon above my (i.e. the parents)
    Xbox live Avatar, is it maybe something to do with that?

    It maybe useful for you to know that I have successfully turned another ‘adults’ profile on our Xbox360 to be an Xbox live profile, by successfully linking it to their Microsoft account using steps 1-6 above.

    Whilst I can also set up a new child’s profile for our Xbox360 by setting up another Microsoft account and then using the windows 10 Xbox App to turn it into an xbox live account, this does not solve the problem I have. That is because I specifically
    want to access the saved games associated with the existing profiles with an Xbox live account. I want to do this because I want to add the gold subscription to allow the games to be saved to the cloud in the future rather than the xbox360s HDD.

    At one point it was possible, then several years ago they stopped it. I think due to a change in some laws.

    An online child account for the 360 would have to be created on the website and then downloaded to the console. It is not possible to turn an offline child account into an adult account through the console. Unfortunately that does mean they will lose any
    progress they already had and will have to start over on the new account.

    Very many thanks for your quick response which I understand. So sadly it seems that the only way to ensure the Minecraft world game saves that he has made to the 360 console's HDD with the offline account can only be safeguarded against a HDD that might
    one day fail in the future, is by backing up / saving periodically to a USB stick? Do you know if it ever was possible to create an online account for a child on the 360 console? I ask because clearly the mechanism for doing it (that I've sadly gone through
    three laboriously times now) still exists?

    A little bit more info.

    When I try to join live, it says:

    Setup a Microsoft account for xbox live

    Get your unique gamertag

    Choose your membership level

    After that, I enter my Microsoft account info but then I get:

    This Microsoft account is associated with a different xbox live profile. Try different account.

    I am confused. What xbox live profile am I associated with? There is another user in this box but he uses different email account and gamertag,
