I am receiving the error code 0x80070002 when trying to play Starfield on my PC

Hi. For ten days, it worked as I described. But last Saturday it again reported error 0x80070002. And your procedure doesn't help either. I don't want to download 140 GB (Starfield) again! But what annoys me even more, the same error is now being reported by another GamePass game, Forza Horizon 5... And it's about the same size! Only Forza Horizon 3 works for me, which I bought though. So I guess the problem is just the GamePass games. I pay GamePass and I can't use it :-( Help me!

I found one working solution on the internet.

I reinstalled MS game services (run sfc /scannow).

I installed the game from the Xbox app, but launched it from the MS Windows Store.

I logged out of my MS account and started the game as administrator.

The cause of this issue could be related to how the game was launched or else the system in use was not updated or require scans.

For those that will need the steps you have taken for the reinstalled Microsoft Game Services, we will detailed it out and provide you steps for system scans too:

Uninstalling and reinstalling Gaming Services.

Right-click the Start button and select Windows PowerShell (Admin).

Type this command one at a time, press enter and wait:
get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN

Install the app on that page and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.

Restart your device and try to install the game again

Run system scans

Run a full system scan. This will check and restore corrupted system files.

In Windows search bar, search for Command Prompt and Run as Administrator.

Copy the command below one line at a time and paste it on Command Prompt:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

SFC /scannow

Based on your description, the resolution or workaround you are seeing that could help you is to reinstall the game. We would like to isolate the issue:

1. Since you have mention in your description, Xbox Game Pass for PC, we would like to ask if you are having issues with other games installed through Xbox.
   
2. May we ask if you have issues installing Microsoft Store games? You may try to install Minecraft Launcher or Microsoft Sudoku or Microsoft Solitaire Collection.
   
3. Is the error code shows in the middle of the game, upon launching or when you finish a battle or level or challenge or mission? Please share a screenshot of the issue and conceal your personal information like email or gamertag.
   
4. Aside from reinstalling the game and updating the OS and GPU driver, may we ask what other troubleshooting you have performed?
   
5. Is your PC specs meet the required system of the game?
   
6. Do you have antivirus, antimalware, VPN, firewall, proxy and PC Optimizer (or something like game accelerator) installed in your PC? Or do you use mods or add-ons of the game?
   

So far, from the details you provided, you can try the following steps and let us know the result. You can just skip those you have done already.

1. Restart device - Please do not skip.
   
   • This will clear your computer’s memory/RAM.
     
2. Keep your Windows updated - You may skip this unless you did not have installed the Optional Update for your PC.
   
   • Install PC updates including Optional Update. Guide - Update Windows
     
     • Settings > Update & Security (Windows 10) or Windows Update (Windows 11) > Check for updates > download updates and install > restart device and wait for the update to be done.
       
   • If you have issues with update, please check the troubleshooting steps available here - Troubleshoot problems updating Windows.
     
3. Update Xbox app and Gaming Services from Microsoft Store
   
   • Launch Microsoft Store app on Windows by searching it on Windows search bar.
     
   • Select Library > Updates & downloads > check if an update is available for the Xbox app or Gaming Services app.
     
   • If an update is available, select Update.
     
4. Make sure the game is updated.
   
   • Launch Xbox App for Windows.
     
   • In My Library, select the game title > select More options (…) button and choose Manage > select Files and then Check for updates.
     
5. Make sure you are signed in to Microsoft Store and Xbox app with the same credentials.
   
6. Run the game in administrator. Search the game's title on Windows search bar (press Windows key) and type Starfield. Select the result of the game and right-click and choose to Run this as administrator.
