I am not able to select a different installation drive in the Xbox app after reinstalling...

This issue is usually related to the game services App, try applying the steps below

and let us know the result:

1. Windows + I > Applications > Applications and Features;

2. Search "Game Service" > Click "..." > Advanced Options > Restore;

3. Try starting your games again.

If the problem persists, completely reinstall the game services:

1. Click Start Menu > Windows Power Shell > Run as Administrator;

2. Type or paste each command, and at the end, press Enter to process it:

Get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers [Enter]

REG DELETE "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServices" /F [Enter]

REG DELETE "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServicesNet" /F [Enter]

3. Restart your device.

Launch the Xbox app. You should see a blue banner with the following message: "This app needs an extra component. Game services are required to play some games. Administrator approval is required. Install". Select Install to reinstall Game Services. After the installation is complete, you will be able to install and launch the games again.

If that doesn't work, open the Admin command prompt, type or paste the following command below and press Enter:

start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN

Process the installation, reboot and test.

If it still persists, try changing the download location and storage of the games:

Press the Windows key and select > Settings > System > Storage. Select Change where new content is saved. Using the menu under Where apps will be saved , choose the desired drive.

I understand that you are having trouble selecting the default installation drive in the Xbox app, but don't despair, I will try to help you fix the problem.

You must follow the following steps to the letter

Repair the drive: If you are using an external drive, make sure it is connected to your PC

Next, open the Xbox app and go to Settings - Installation Options

Select the “Change app default game installation location” drop-down menu and change the folder to the desired drive

You may see a message that says “(Drive requires service.” If so, select "Repair Drive"

Rename the WindowsApp folder: Try creating another windowsapp folder by renaming the windowsapp folder to something else. You should now be able to put games on your D drive or whatever you are using for this step.

Finally...

Reinstall the Xbox app: If the above steps don't work, you could try uninstalling and reinstalling the Xbox app.

Try reinstalling the Xbox PC app or reinstalling Forza Horizon 5 to a different drive.

I've had errors and issues in the past installing certain games in the Xbox app, but normally either reinstalling Xbox app or trying to install the game on another drive does the trick.

I was able to get it to work after doing several things. I did windows updates, installed the companion app and uninstalled and reinstalled the Xbox Beta App. I am not sure what made it work but I am able to log in and download/play games now.

Similar problem. Solution did not work. Partitions are ntfs, but some drives do not allow me to change folder. they will show up in settings- general-drive letter in gamepass app. but not have option to change folder underneath option to select drive. I presume that it's a permission error, and followed Lucas' instructions, no bueno.

I also selected new apps installed to this drive from within windows settings and reinstalled xbox app so that it installed to this drive.
