I accidentally deleted a 5 year old Xbox chat with my friend

I opened the new message to read it, I for some reason pressed multiple buttons and the chat opened saying it’s empty I thought it glitched so opened the friends profile to message and the chat was still empty. I sent a message and it’s the only message showing for me

I’m really hoping Xbox can restore the messages on my account or something cause there’s so many memories there I’d like to keep!

Hello,

Although the conversation would be permanently deleted (everywhere - on all devices) for you on your account/profile, it won’t be deleted from your friend’s side (unless they deleted it as well). So at least that’s a positive and you may still be able to go through the chat with your friend

Keep in mind that Xbox messages are automatically deleted (and can’t be recovered) after a certain amount of time. I’m not sure the exact amount of time for when this happens and I can’t confirm the reason for this, but it’s typically around 5-7 years and you would need to take photos of the conversation(s) if you want to keep any.

I checked my phone and it’s deleted there as well. I’m just going to use my phone to message in the future to avoid making this mistake again 😂

Unfortunately, once it has been deleted, there's no way to retrieve it your messages anymore. Though, if you have Xbox app on your mobile or PC, you may consider checking if the message would still be available.
