  1. Humming/Grinding sound with discs

    Happy Holidays!

Okay so I've posted once before about this, and after talking with several people here and a few personal friends I decided to send my Xbox One console in for repair. After a few weeks I received my console back on December 24,2015 to find that my issue
    has not been resolved.

I was told that when they looked at my console that there was nothing wrong with it. Which is funny because the noise that it makes only lasts for about a minute or two and then it stops. And you may be wondering why I'm making an issue out of this? Because
it happens not once, but multiple times throughout the disc playing.

I was told I am eligible for the Advanced Exchange, but after reading some reviews on it, I am not 100% comfortable doing this.

The noise is obviously not normal because it doesn't go on continuously, it stops. Plus it only occurs when I have a disc in the console.

This is seriously frustrating, especially after I spent almost $400 on a product for it not to work correctly, and then have them not do anything about it.

    :)

Loud noise when game is inserted, silent when DVD is inserted.

It is a similar sound to that of the fans in a computer. Not a grinding noise at all, I would say its a mix of humming and buzzing, but more hum.

    humming sound

Humming/buzzing would have to be due to one of these following parts:

    -Xbox system fans

    -Disc drive

    -Hard drive

These are the only moving parts which could cause vibration or buzzing.

Please check that there is not disc in the drive, check that system fans are blowing correctly, and lastly, check that the sound is not coming from your hard drive by taking the hard drive out and see if the sound persists.

Let me know if you require any more assistance, and provide feedback if you can. Thanks!

    1. Make sure your console is plugged into an outlet, NOT power surge or power protector.

    2. Settings >disc and blue ray > blue ray > persistent storage > clear persistent storage.

    3. Settings > power and start up > turn off or restart > restart now

    4. Repeat step 2

    5. Power cycle the console by holding the power button for 10 seconds, and unplugging the console from the wall for 30 seconds.

    Disc drive

Does that happen with every game disc?

Does it also happen with BluRay movies and movie DVDs or music CDs?

When the disc is inserted, does the console show a disc is inserted?

How does the buzzing sound? Is it more a "humming" buzzing sound, as if the disc is uneven and is spinning unevenly? Or is it an electrical buzzing, like an electrical motor unable to turn? Or is it a grinding buzzing as if plastic gears are slipping?

What about the beeping noise? Is it a beep similar to the console turning on and off, or is that a different beep?

Can you record a video of your console doing this and uploading that to YouTube?

Put a disc in and listen for a grinding sound.

BTW that grinding sound is actually a SFX from the console. Or at least that's what exbox is showing on the spec for the console. Similar to when you turn it on or off or eject the disc. At least that's what the sound is on mine, but yeah it really sounds
like a disc grinding. Its not though
