  1. How would I switch a Gamertag between accounts if it's over twelve characters in length?

I have two Microsoft accounts with Xbox profiles set up for each. The first account, lets call it account A, has a 14 character Gamertag that I created back on Xbox 360 many years ago. Account B has a unique 10 character Gamertag (no prefix/numbers) that was created more recently.

How would I go about using the Gamertag for account A on the other account? Even if I changed the Gamertag on account B isn't there now a 12 character limit when picking a new Gamertag? This means I can't set account B to account A's Gamertag. If I contact Microsoft would they be able to switch them for me? I would still want to maintain possession of both Gamertags.

    :)

It doesn't become available until 10 years. Gamertags are recycled every 10 years

Hello, My name is Jesse. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

I'm afraid there isn't a way to switch them. Transferring gamertags between accounts is impossible.

To my knowledge, it isn't released as soon as the account connected to it change it. You can use the gamertag but numbers will be added to it. You won't be able to get the original gamertag you just changed until it is recycle after many years.

I'm not sure if you understood my question. I know that inactive Gamertags become available after many years but every source I've looked at says that a Gamertag is released as soon as the account it's connected to does a Gamertag change.
