How to use xbox 360 disc games on series s

I was recently thinking of buying a series s to play newer games and was thinking of also using it to play my 360 game discs I have where some are still backwards compatible. I know that there is not a a disc drive but if I were to download the games from the disc into an external drive on Xbox 360, would I be able to use that external drive and play / download the games on Xbox series s just by connecting the external drive or is it not possible?

The FAQ states the following:

If you’re playing from disc on Xbox Series X|S, you’ll need to keep the disc inserted to play that game.

This implies if I bought a disc and installed on my xbox one, I would require the disc to play on my Series S. However the Series s is discless. I don't understand how a physical disc can state smart delivery for the Series S.

A Series S doesn't have a disc drive, so I'm not sure how you've been using it. But all games that work for a Series S will work on a Series X and vice versa (as long as they're digital on the Series S).

To use Xbox 360 games with the series S you must use digital copies. There is no sort of disc to digital program currently announced, and no one here will know about it before some kind of press conference or news release

A Series X has a disc drive.

Why not get the Series for yourself and give the X1X to the kids?
