How to update child’s date of birth as greyed out on account.

I have added my child as a family member but when I click on the 3 dots next to his name and then on manage permissions, it takes me back to the main page. When I click on him info, I am unable to edit his dob, only his gender, region and time zone.

I am sorry that you are having this problem, to change your child's date of birth you must be the primary guardian of the family and your child must be included there. If you have not done this, follow these steps:

First, you need to create a family group, go to http://family.microsoft.com. Select Create a family group. Sign in or create a Microsoft account. Add family members by email or phone number to create your family group. Next, add the child's account, and you can then edit the child account settings as needed.

If you updated your date of birth on your MS account via account.microsoft.com that does not change the date of birth on your xbox account. The date of birth listed on your xbox account on account creation is permanent. So if the age is under 18 it will
remain a child account until the age is 18.

Is your child account 18 years old based on the date of birth you originally entered when making the account? If not then that is why it wont change to an adult account. Note that if you changed the date of birth on your Microsoft account that will not change
the date of birth on you Xbox Account. The child-adult upgrade system only looks at the date of birth that was originally entered when your Xbox account was made.

Hello Louis.

Currently there is no way to adjust the date of birth for an Xbox Live profile. Therefore; if the account is a child account it will remain so until the date of birth reaches the age of 18. You can always create another account with the correct date of birth
here.
