    How to solve really long load times in Xbox Game Pass for PC, such as Fallout 4


    Hello,

    I've been getting really long loading times in Fallout 4 on the pc version of Xbox Game Pass. Normally going from an inside location to an outside location. Example: When leaving Fort Hagen, the loading took so long that my Xbox series controller powered off from inactivity. Which was greater than 15 minutes but I wasn't timing it. On the Steam version on the same computer, on the same ssd, the load time was seconds. Less than 30 seconds. I know the quickest answer is, just play the steam version. Duh. I'm concerned that this is affecting other Xbox Game Pass PC games on my system. I remember this happening on Forza Horizon 4 as well but never this bad.

    Manufacturer: Dell

    Model: Alienware Aurora r10

    OS Windows 11 Version 10.0.22000 Build 22000

    CPU: Ryzen 7 5800 (non-X)

    Cooler: EVGA CLC 120mm All-In-One CPU Liquid Cooler

    Ram: Ram: G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4-3000 CL16

    Video: Nvidia 3060 RTX dell GA 106-300 a1 Driver Version 30.0.14.9649

    Motherboard: Alienware 0TYR0X A00 (X570) BIOS Version/Date Alienware 2.2.1, 8/9/2021

    Storage:

    C: micron 2300 nvme 512gb ssd (boot)

    D: Crucial MX500 1TB ssd (Xbox game pass and Steam games installed here)

    E: Crucial BX500 480GB SSD Micron 3D NAND SATA III

    F: Seagate BarraCuda 2TB Internal Hard Drive

    Power supply: Dell 550w 80+ Gold

    Hmmm weird, I suggest you try these basic troubleshooting steps!

    Open Settings, click Update and Security and then Windows Update;

    Click Check for Updates;

    Click the Download and Install Now option, if available;

    Also, check the Microsoft Store for any updates on the Xbox apps and its services.

    Then try this:

    Go to windows settings > apps > search for gaming services app > click on it and select advanced options.

    After that, click repair and then restore, open the app and try again.

    Then do the same for the Xbox app:

    Go to windows settings > apps > search for Xbox app > click on it and select advanced options.

    After that, click repair and then restore, open the app and try again.

    If it still doesn't work you're going to uninstall the games services using a powershell command, then you're going to open the gamepass app, it will ask you to download and install the game services again :

    In the windows search bar type Powershell > Right click and select open as administrator > Type the command: "get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-Appxpackage –allusers" > Wait for the process to finish and then restart the PC, then open your Xbox gamepass app, it will ask you to install the gaming services again, install it and try again.

    I installed it on my Crucial MX500 1TB SSD. I wouldn't have even asked if I installed in on the Hard drive. The hard drive is just archival stuff for records and family pictures. I don't put any games on it.

    Hi there Rob welcome to the community forum! Christopher here, an Xbox fan just like you and has been on Xbox for years already. I would really love to make your day by helping you out. I gave in and made room on the SSD. It runs way better - loading times are like 5 times faster on my Samsung SSD 860 EVO M.2 250GB. It completely fixed the issue. The games do not like 2tb mechanical drives I guess lol.

    Is this external drive big enough?

    It's a 250GB SOLID STATE DRIVE. It will just be used for games that require a lot of disk drive activity like Fallout 4 does. If you haven't played Fallout 4 to see how long it takes to load certain parts of the game you wouldn't know what I am talking about.
    If you have played Fallout 4 going to a SOLID STATE DRIVE will improve load times 2X to 4X faster.
