How to set up a local guest account?

Hi,

I recently switched from Xbox 360 to Xbox Series X. Yesterday I wanted to spontaneously play some coop with a friend. However, we couldn't find any way to create him a local guest account. This was extremely easy with the xbox 360: Just create an avatar and give it a name and the fun began. Probably the one basic feature of a console for an easy and fast local multipayer game as compared to PC... but we just couldn't find it on the Series X.

The only way was to create a clone of my main account. But then he has the same name like me + (1) and his progress can't be saved. The only other option seemed to be creating an extra MS account for him in order to be able to choose a profile name and progress. However, it would be completely ridiculous that every guest has to set up and confirm an online account just to play a few minutes with me on my xbox console, when the very easy way of just creating a local profile obviously was no problem 15 years ago... Is there any purposeful way to use the Series X for local coop / multiplayer that we didn't find or was this seriously removed?

Hello SebTre, yes, even on console One and X the addition of a guest is the same way to play a coop, or you add a guest and he gets the same name as your account, or your guest would have to put his account on your console so they can play together.

Hi there,

I'm afraid that the offline profile option that was available on the Xbox 360 no longer is available on the newer Xbox consoles.

The only way to create a Guest account (the 'copy' with (1)) is mentioned on the steps on this support page:

https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/account-profile/manage-account/set-up-and-use-guest-account which doesn't save progress etc.

You could also consider creating a secondary account owned and managed by you, that your guests can use on your console when playing coop.

Hello Marcchair, if the game in question allows local cooperation just create an account as a guest.

You can't disable the guest account option but you can set up a guest key which will serve the same purpose. If you wish to know more on how to set up a guest key, please check => Set up and manage a guest key on your Xbox console | Xbox Support.

You would have to look to see which games have local coop. Then the kids would need to sign into their own account or a guest account with their controller. Some games require additional steps to use local coop in game. It can be complicated to set
up.
