How to reset the folder name, when choosing the install drive?

I recently scored a decent 4TB drive for Prime Day and I have been in the process of migrating all the games I can off of my 1TB drive to the new 4TB drive. When I went to the Xbox app

I right clicked Halo 4

Left clicked manage.

Left clicked files.

Left clicked change drive.

I proceeded to make a new folder on my 4TB drive call Microsoft Games and then a sub folder called Halo 4

Because I got to these screens by modifying the Halo 4 installation, I thought it was game specific now I am finding every game I want to move to my 4TB drive from the Xbox app wants to be installed in the Halo 4 sub folder I created. There doesn't seem to be an obvious way to change the folder once you have done this.

I tried Repairing the Xbox app.

I tried Resetting the Xbox app.

I even removed the Halo 4 sub folder thinking if it cannot find the folder maybe it will prompt me to specify a new one. Unfortunately, it just prompts me to make sure that folder exists.

Ok I just sorted it out right after posting this. I was trying to do everything in the prompts from a given game. Which has very limited options. Thought in the apps defense it does tell you to go to Profile > Settings > General. As shown below...

When you do that, the options are similar with one exception that I completely overlooked. In the folder path you have an option to Change Folder.

In my case since I had deleted that folder in my flurry to figure this out, I couldn't even see this. I had to

Recreate the folder.
Close and Reopen settings.
Then I could select the 4tb drive and chose Change Folder.

Definitely some missteps on my part here but something for Xbox App product team to consider, if you are going to let people change the drive from the settings prompts of a particular game, maybe it needs to be a bit clearer that the folder path you specify is for all games you try to install on that drive.

I solved it by changing the package directory to the same drive as the main installation was installed.

Steps

1. Cut / Pasted the folder that contains "Community" and "Official" folders to the drive first asked when installing from the scratch.

2. Start FlightSimulator

3. Choose new location (takes some time)

Now it works properly.

Hi Rafael. My name is Kyle and I'm an independent advisor.

These folders are required by the Xbox app and Microsoft Store in order to install and run your games. 2 of them must be located at the root of the drive, unfortunately they cannot be moved to a custom folder.

The XboxGames folder can be moved. Open the Xbox app, click your profile in to the top right and select Settings > Install Options. From here you can choose the default drive to install games on, and select 'Change Folder' to move the XboxGames folder to a different location.

Are you trying to install your game using an external drive? Kindly also open File Explorer, followed by the C drive where Windows is installed. Click on the Windows folder, then open the Software Distribution folder. Click the DataStore folder to open it.

Delete everything in the DataStore folder by selecting the contents, right-clicking and choosing Delete then try installing your games again.
