How to record audio with Xbox Stereo Headset microphone with Windows 10

    Hello Benzo Stanbury,

    Greetings!

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

Based on the description, you are trying to record audio using Xbox Stereo headset using audacity program. Let us check and see on what we can do to help resolve your concern in a timely manner.

Yes, you can record audio using an Xbox Stereo headset microphone in Windows 10. Here are some steps you can follow:

    1. Check Your Audio Settings: Start the Xbox app. Click your user profile name in the top-left corner of the app’s window. Select Settings to bring up a window. Click Audio on the left of the Settings window. Then select the microphone you want to use with the Xbox app in the Input device menu.

    2. Allow Microphone Access: Go to Settings (press Windows + I key together) > Privacy. On the left hand pane scroll down and look for Microphone. Toggle Allow apps to access Microphone to ON. Under Choose which Microsoft Store app can access your Microphone toggle Xbox game bar to ON. Restart the game bar.

    3. Use Audacity: If you're using Audacity to record, you might need to set "Stereo Mix" as your input device. Click on the “Microphone” pane and choose “Stereo Mix”.

We look forward to your response. Kindly let us know, if there is any misunderstanding or clarifications of our description by sending us a reply.

Bug: Microphone doesn't work after disconnecting Windows 10 streaming

    Thank you Bestlano!

Another issue I'm running into with the headset adapter + windows 10 streaming:

I docked my surface pro 2 into the docking station, which has a wired PC microphone plugged in. When I start playing (Rainbow Six Siege), the game audio is coming through my headset adapter (via the Xbos Stereo Headset), but the Windows 10 Xbox app is utilizing
my wired PC microphone instead of the Stereo Headset/Headset Adapter. I can't figure out a way to force the streaming app to use the microphone plugged into my controller...

(not sure if I should document this issue in another thread)

It seems there may be some minor issues between the Windows 10 Xbox streaming application when used with the Xbox Headset Adapter.

How to record audio with Xbox Stereo Headset microphone with Windows 10

    Hello Benzo Stanbury,

Thank you for getting back with the thread.

I understand how important it is how to achieve your goal while using Xbox Stereo headset to record at the same time listening audio at the same time. Experiences may vary by games or app. Since you are using the third-party application, it is best to consult their dedicated support if this feature is being supported by their application. You can check it here: Contact | Audacity ® (audacityteam.org)

Thank you for bringing this concern to us and glad to point you to the right direction to get resolution to your concern.

    Sincerely,

How to record audio with Xbox Stereo Headset microphone with Windows 10

This sort of works. But it only works if:

    1. When I plug my Xbox headset into the microphone port on the back of my motherboard, which prompts a Realtek popup in the lower-right hand of the screen which prompts me to select what I plugged in: headphones, microphone, or line-in. I select "Microphone".

    2. I specify the Host in Audacity as MME.

Then I can record audio into Audacity. However, I can't listen through my Xbox headset because it's plugged into the microphone port and assigned as a microphone, not as an output device like a headphone.

So I still need to know how to use this Xbox Stereo headset to record Audacity and listen to my audio simultaneously.

Game Bar Does Not Record my voice during party chat

Thanks for coming to the forums with your question. With recording your voice it will not do this through the game bar itself. You either have to do it through the Xbox companion app or have a capture card. As this guide for

    setting up streaming windows 10
shows it will only record from the Microphone on the PC not the headset.

    Recorded audio

Record game play with or without sounds from your game and your microphone, and choose the audio quality.

    • To record game sounds with your game clips, turn on Record audio when I record a game.
    • To choose a different audio quality than the default, select the Audio quality box and choose one of the options.
    • To record through your microphone, turn on Record audio when I record a game.
Thanks Brad. I went to the Companion app and it redirects me to the Windows 10 settings that you outlined above. Based on this, looks like the microphone has to be connected to the PC to record my own voice. Is there a way I can request this as a feature?
