How to recognize an original disc?

I want to do some aftermarket trading of game discs, exchange my played games for some I haven' t played. What worries me is that I heard that XO can ban my account or similar if I use counterfeit disc, so I want to avoid that (plus I don't condone piracy
anyway and do not want to participate in it). Yet, XBOX one site does not seem to have a page dedicated to ways of checking if a disc is original or not (seems to be all sticks and no carrots).

I remember the 360 used to have a bunch of counterfeit discs.

So my question is, how can I visually or otherwise check if a disc is an original, preferable at the moment of exchange?

Backup Games?

No, this won't work because the DVD-drive won't recognize this "backup" as an original.

 

Best thing is to trade your games in at a dedicated game shop.That way you are pretty much guaranteed not to get any pirated games.

Just make sure you look at any pre owned game disc before you leave the store & ask for a different copy if you have any doubts.

In my experience staff at dedicated game shops wont accept any disc they are unsure about.

 

Unfortunately, I don't have any such shop available. Game shops in my country only sell new games. So all exchanges are at a few open-air gatherings and such, which you must admit is a prime opportunity to peddle counterfeit. I never buy games there for
that reason, only want to exchange, but I still fear I might be duped.

Now, you say take a look at the game and ask if suspicious. How would I even know to be suspicious? What do I need to look at? What does the store employee look at when someone brings an old game in for trade? I don't see anything special on the originals
I won except that the disc has to be factory made (not burned) and that it has some sort of holographic XBOX ONE mark on the inner ring. Is that it? The rest seems very easily reproducible, and factory made discs seem to be within reach of an organized and
motivated criminal.

If you have no dedicated game shops then I wouldn't risk it myself.

The only other thing is maybe use a reputable dealer online but then again you are still risking them sending you pirated copies of games.

You could always approach a trusted game shop in your country & ask if they would consider some sort of trade in scheme.

 

OK, can we at least get the rumors out of the way. Lets say I observe for signs and I still get duped and I put a counterfeit disc in the box. It wont work, obviously, but what other consequences can I have?

 

A suspension or even a console ban.

I know you want to trade in your games but if you have no reliable dedicated game shops that do trade ins then I wouldn't risk it.You may end up with a convincing pirated game
