How to make an adult account into a child.

My kids has always just used my account since he never played alone or in his room. Now that he is a little older and has a setup in his own room and am wanting to set him up a child in the MS family so I can monitor and set screen time limits. He really
wants to keep the original account as it has all his gamertag and accomplishments, so I setup another adult account and linked them. I have changed the birthday and name on the original to his now so it should be a child, but it is still showing as an adult.
It did go through prompts when I was changing the info that made me think it was going to change it, and did have the new adult account give permission to allow the new account to change, but it still shows as an adult and wont let me set screen times for
the parent account. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can't change an adult account into a child account

 

You would have to create a new child account and to be able to set the parental controls. Changing the birthdate on the MS account does not transfer over to the Xbox account. Unfortunately no progress or Gamerscore would be able to transfer to the new account
should you create it.
