this post? This will give you instructions to manually install the update from a USB or CD. I have found that when booting the console without a storage device, I need to have first inserted a CD with the system update, then to restart the console for it
to run the latest software. If you try this with a storage device connected, you should be able to install it without relying on a stable internet connection to Live.
