How to get Xbox Gamepass Ultimate without the subscription thing

I have earned enough points on Microsoft Rewards to get $5. So I went to use that to get Xbox Gamepass Ultimate for $1. But I only want it for a month. I know that you can turn off renewal after getting it, but I have to add a credit card, and does the
purchase automatically take $14 off the credit card on the start? I'm nervous that I will lose my money.

No. It'll only charge you the $1. Then, as you said, as long as you turn off auto-renewal before it renews, you won't be charge any more than that.

If you bought the Gamepass for PC and don't have an Xbox then getting Ultimate Gamepass is pointless. It would upgrade your subscription from Gamepass for PC to Ultimate Gamepass

Since you have Gamepass ultimate, that means you already have access to Xbox live gold, Gamepass for console and Gamepass for PC. To utilize the PC subscription, you just need to be signed into the same Microsoft account that owns the ultimate subscription.

You won't have Gamepass.

Gamepass is a subscription that provides access to a library of games that can be played without purchasing them. Similar to Netflix.

While "Gamepass Ultimate" provided access to that same library and also gives access to Xbox Gold and EA Play.

Ea Play is also like gamepass that offers their own game library that can be accessed while the Subscription is active.

With Gamepass Ultimate, you'll have Gold, Gamepass, and Ea Play all in one Subscription.

However, what you purchased (Xbox Live) is Xbox Gold. This is a subscription that provides access to online gaming.

It is not Gamepass so if you are looking for an active Gamepass after redeeming that 12-month Subscription, Gamepass will not show but Xbox Live or Xbox Gold should show.

The offer of £1 is purely for new members to the GamePass ultimate subscription.

There is a way to get ultimate at the cost of gold plus one month of ultimate but you will have to wait now without owning GamePass for the required time (i believe its 1 year but can't confirm that)

It is a straight conversion of 1:1

I ended up with 36 months of Ultimate for the price of Gold membership for the three years (I got it on an awesome offer of £24 a year) and then paid the £1 for 3 months of GamePass Ultimate. 36 months is the limit to how many months it will work for so
there was some overspill but essentially it cost me £73 for three years of GamePass ultimate
