How to Fix Slow Downloads on Xbox Game Pass App for PC (Beta)

I was trying to download my first game (Ark) today and after 5 hours I was only at 20%. One thing I noticed is that I think it stops downloading when my screen goes to sleep so I changed my settings to keep my PC awake for 5 hours. To increase download speeds
go to Settings> Update & Security> Delivery Optimization and enable downloading from other PC's, then select "PC's on my local network." Also download through the Microsoft Store not the Xbox app. My download speed went from being 9mb/s to around 28mb/s (this
is an average, it goes up and down ranging between 18-38) but that still seems very slow to me. I've never downloaded a game through the Game Pass before so let me know if this is a normal speed. If anyone has an suggestions or things that have worked for
them to get faster speeds please share!

I did read a post on how to fix the slow downloads but after following the instructions I think it made my download even slower, that discussion was locked so I could not comment so I'm sharing my tips in this post. The instructions I found on that forum
was to go to Run> gpedit.msc which will open Group Policy files so that you can enable downloading from other PC's but I needed to download an add-on just to get to that file. Once in the file you go to Delivery Optimization> Download Mode and select "Enable"
and change config from LAN (1) to Internet (3). But this is a big waste of time. After I followed the instructions to change the Group Policy files my download speed actually decreased and it was supposed to increase my download speed to 50mb/s. Before doing
this my download speed was 9mb/s, after doing this it went down to 1mb/s! I did read a tip that I should download games through the Microsoft store and not the Xbox app so I tried that and my download speeds went from 1mb/s to 5mb/s. Then I went back to the
Group Policy files that I changed and changed them back to default. So inside the Download Mode file I changed it from "Enabled" to "No Configuration" and back to LAN (1), BUT I kept the changes I made under the Updates & Security settings and my speed went
up.

Which beta app are you having issue downloading? The Xbox Console Companion App (Beta) or the Xbox Game Pass for PC app (Beta)? You'll need to have he beta companion app downloaded first before you can download the PC game pass app (beta) and you will also
need to have Windows update version 1903.

Restart your PC and then make sure you have the requirements to download the PC game pass app.

Is your PC running Windows 10 1903? and are you using the Game Pass PC (beta) app to download the game?

My goodness that's a lot of work to do for nothing to happen. If your PC is wireless please try connecting with an ethernet cable. Other things to try would include making sure the PC has no pending updates and to fully shut your PC down then unplug your
modem/router for at least 60 seconds to clear any blockages on your end.

Also please understand that due to current world conditions Xbox servers are getting more activity than normal. This can put a strain on them in some cases slowing downloads. You could try installing the game overnight when everyone is asleep to see if
that helps in a case like that

Thank you! I ended up having software updates in the morning and now downloads through the Microsoft store are a lot faster.

The Xbox (Beta) app recently got updated out of Beta. Try going to the Microsoft Store app to download Minecraft and while you're there, click on the top right icon (the one with the Down Arrow) or the "..." and click on "Downloads and Updates".

Also, the Xbox (Beta) app currently only shows Game Pass games. Minecraft PC unfortunately is not on Game Pass.
