How to fix an issue with java runtime for older versions of Minecraft

When I try to load any of the older versions of Minecraft before 1.20.5 it just gives this error message:

Unable to start Java. Error details: unknown error Filename on disk: javaw.exe Path: C:\Users\berry\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.4297127D64EC6_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Local\runtime\java-runtime-gamma\windows-x64\java-runtime-gamma\bin\javaw.exe Exists: File

Why is this happening and how can I fix this so that I can launch the older versions?

    :)

How to fix an issue with java runtime for older versions of Minecraft

Hello Jayden, thanks for reaching out for support on the Xbox forum. I'm sorry that you're experiencing this issue. I'm happy to help you in any way that I can.

This error means that the Java runtime required for older Minecraft versions is missing or corrupted.

One possible solution is to try reinstalling the Minecraft launcher, which can refresh the Java runtime files needed to launch those versions.

If that doesn’t fix the problem, I recommend contacting Minecraft Support directly for further assistance:

Let me know if you need help submitting a ticket.

Minecraft instantly crashes whenever I try to open it

Thanks for the quick answer. I managed to find the Java folder and tried inserting the code on the latest version installation, but it gives me this error:

Your Java Runtime is incompatible. Please edit your installation to use the bundled Java Runtime.

    Name: Java Version mismatch

    URL: https://aka.ms/jnierror

I assume the Java version isn't compatible with the latest Minecraft version? However, when I tried with a 1.8.9 installation, I got another error. First it opens a Java code window and then it gives me this error on the launcher:

    The game crashed: initializing game

Error: org.lwjgl.LWJGLException: Pixel format not accelerated

In this case, make sure that you remove all of your mods for Minecraft Java, and then try again. Given that you've reinstalled both the Java Runtime Environment and Minecraft itself, it is most likely that the issue lies somewhere else, likely with your mods (if you have some of them installed).

I have purchased Minecraft Java edition, but I don’t seem to be able to install/run it on my PC. I get the following message: “javaw.exe minecraft file location not found”. Can you help?

Thank you for contact us! I'm Anderson, an Independent Consultant and a Microsoft user like you.

    good evening

This error message is indicating that the system cannot find the "javaw.exe" file, which is a component of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) that is needed to run Minecraft Java Edition. To resolve this issue, you'll need to make sure that you have the latest version of Java installed on your computer.

You can download the latest version of Java from the official website: https://www.java.com/en/download/

Once you have installed the latest version of Java, try running Minecraft again and see if the issue is resolved. If the problem persists, please check the file path of your minecraft.exe, Make sure that the path is correct and pointing to the right location, and also check your antivirus, it could be blocking the minecraft.exe file.

Minecraft 1.17-1.18 (Java Edition) crash on my computer.

Hi, ThePython10110 my name is Jhon, and will be a pleasure help you

Thank you for providing the additional system information. Here are some further tailored suggestions based on your specs and the absence of crash logs:

    Graphics Driver Focus:

Prioritize Graphics Driver Updates: As you have a dedicated Intel graphics card, focus on ensuring its drivers are up-to-date.
Clean Installation: If updating doesn't help, use a driver removal tool to completely uninstall old drivers and then install the latest ones cleanly.

    RAM Allocation:

Experiment with Allocation: While you have 7.91 GB of RAM, try allocating different amounts to Minecraft (e.g., 2-4 GB) to see if it affects stability.

    Thorough Software Conflict Checks:

Create a Clean Boot Environment: Disable all non-essential startup programs and services to minimize potential conflicts.
Temporarily Uninstall Antivirus: If you have a third-party antivirus, try temporarily uninstalling it to see if it's interfering with Minecraft.

    Reinstalling Java:

Clean Reinstallation: Consider reinstalling Java to ensure a clean and compatible setup.

    Experiment with Compatibility Mode:

Try Different Windows Versions: Right-click the Minecraft executable, go to Properties > Compatibility, and experiment with running the game in compatibility mode for older Windows versions (e.g., Windows 7 or 8).

Use arm64 runtime for java edition:

Go to the Minecraft Java Edition Settings and checkmark "use arm64 runtime for java edition"
If it is already checkmarked, uncheck it
