Let me help you with your concern today. Please note that this is a public forum, I apologize for a delay in response.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the multiplayer settings. Is he using your Microsoft account or he has his own? If he has his own and is in your family group, please change his settings through your Microsoft account.

Please try to follow these steps to enable multiplayer, try to check the image below as a visual guide.

1. Go to settings page https://www.xbox.com/user/settings/privacy-and-...

2. Sign in the account.

3. Select Xbox and Windows Online Safety tab.

4. Find these settings and set them to enable/allow:

-Join multiplayer games

-Join cross-network play

5. Click Submit and wait for the page to reload.

6. Sign out of Minecraft and restart for the new settings to take effect.

I'm already talking with someone. What's odd is that she told me how to enter in preferences and enable (again) online multiplayer gaming, and I can play other games like L4D2 online, but Minecraft does not allow me to play multiplayer online.
