    I have a wired xbox controller that automatically moves from Player 1 to Player 2 mid-game. Any idea how to get the controller to be recognized as Player 1 or Controller 1 without a reboot?

    I am Windows 10 Home user. Version 10.0.17134. I am not seeing a Primary option in Game Controllers under Control Panel. Restoring to default does nothing.

    A reboot fixes the issue. However this happens every single time I play a game for 5+ minutes so a reboot each time is not a solution. Each time I remove a controller or USB device from the Device Manager,
    a reboot is needed as well. I have read some things that the issue is actually Xbox software on Windows 10.

    Thank you for replying. The controller is always detected. Yes, Win10 is updated and it keeps the drivers updated.

    The issue is that after opening a game, the controller moves from Player 1 to Player 2. I cannot move it back to Player 1 without a reboot. It has ruined the gaming experience.

    I suspect some of the issue is with the xbox gamebar software.

    however I am not seeing any drivers to update and troubleshooting does not include windows10

    I have found the best answer to be uninstalling Xbox related software from Windows10. It stops the issue. Xbox software must be taking player 1 controller spot somehow after a few minutes.
