How to delete my Xbox account

I sold my xbox 360 and I forgot to delete my account. How can I delete my account without the xbox in hand?

If you want to delete your Microsoft account, you can follow these steps:

1. Go to the Close your account page on the Microsoft website.
   
2. Enter the email address of the account you want to close.
   
3. Follow the instructions to sign in.
   
4. Check that the page shows the Microsoft account you want to close, then click Next.
   
5. Read the list of things to check before closing your account, and click the checkboxes to acknowledge you’ve read each item.
   
6. In the Select a reason drop-down list, choose the reason you’re closing the account.
   
7. Click Mark account for closure.
   

Before closing your account, make sure to tie up any loose ends, cancel subscriptions, and make sure you don’t leave anything important behind, such as files in your OneDrive, stuff on Xbox, or emails in Outlook.com. If you forgot your account info and had to reset your security info, you must wait 60 days before closing your account.

If you would like to cancel the Xbox Live account, you can only cancel Xbox Live memberships over the phone. To cancel your Xbox live account call 1-800-4MY-XBOX (1-800-469-9269). You will need to provide your name, address, gamertag or profile name used
on Xbox Live, email address that you used for your Xbox Live account and your phone number.

You cannot delete an Xbox Live account.

If you would like to remove the account from your console, you can.

That will not delete the account, It will only remove it from the console.

(The profile will still remain in the Xbox live servers)

You can delete profiles that you no longer use from your console. Here’s how:

1. Go to Settings, and then select System.
2. Select Storage.
3. Select All Devices.
4. Select Gamer Profiles.
5. Select the gamertag that you want to delete.
6. Select Delete.
7. Select one of the following:

• Select Delete Profile Only. This deletes the profile but leaves saved games and achievements.
  
• Select Delete Profile and Items to delete the profile and the associated saved games and achievements.
