How to delete an old gamertag?

I apologize, but your question is not clear to me. Regarding my knowledge of the Xbox world, you can change your gamertag. When you modify it, the new one will replace the old one and won't be visible anymore. It could never be freed up, it may be in use on any number of Microsoft accounts such as Zune, games for windows etc.

the above answer is right. Major nelson will update and have a list of xbox gamertag that have been deleted when not in use

but remember that gamertag isnt just that

it also linked to Vudu or netflix

and sometimes having the gamertag like this pAyNexiLler also means the gamertag is already taken up

Microsoft have only deleted original Xbox gamertags in the past. They usually don't delete gamertags even if they haven't been used after a few years. The gamertag system is also in use on other Microsoft services, so even if it isn't in use on the 360,
it could be in use elsewhere.

The only time you will see when they will deleted gamertag is when Major Nelson on his blog will reveal it was done or when it will be done. Have a nice day !
