how to delete a gamer tag without deleting the email account

Can anyone tell me how to delete a gamer tag without deleting the email account that it is linked to. I no longer use the gamer tag as it was for my son who now has his own? I still use the email as its my main account. can anyone
help please because Microsoft and Xbox are so ridiculously difficult to get in touch with or just don't understand.

    :)

    well you don't

It's a security concern for any online service

All you can do is delete the ms account of course

That doesn't unassociated your xbox profile if it's just getting a free name change is the point of you doing this

It just makes it harder to recover

Whae probably will be easier is two fold

Change the ms account associated with your gamertag at https://accounts.microsoft.com or if it's because you want a new gamertag pay for it or make a new account

No service will ever allow you to merge or delete any online account

    It's dangerous

  5. Heya!

Unfortunately, what ngocphi posted is correct. There is no way to remove a Gamertag without deleting the entire account.

We do hope that helps clarify and if you do want to free up that GT you can
change it to something else if you like.

  6. Absolutely ridiculous. God forbid you want an email address and Microsoft Office. You get all sorts of junk you don't want - an XBOX account, Skype, useless unwanted "apps" in Windows 10, the list goes on. Another reason to go Mac.

    Delete my unused Gamertag

    DarkRaider777,

There is no way to delete a gamer tag. You can pay to have it changed, but deleting the Microsoft Account will not delete the associated gamer tag and will only make that gamer tag inaccessible since there will no longer be a supporting Microsoft account.
