    How to confirm audio passthrough is working as intended?


    Apologies if this has been answered before - I didn't see an obvious post about this.

    I have a Series X connected to a Denon AVR-X2700H. I typically have the console set to bitstream audio output, and in this mode the AV unit always shows my audio as 'multi 7.1', regardless of what apps or games I play. If I set the console to Dolby Atmos audio output, then my receiver will show Atmos whenever an app or game is sending over Atmos content.

    I know audio passthrough is only for media apps, and I regularly use Disney+ and Netflix (both of which I believe already support the feature). But with bitsream output I don't see any change to how the AV unit is handling the audio. What should I expect to see different (if anything?) I feel like I'm missing something really obvious about how this should work, but before I start randomly changing settings, figured someone could point me in the right direction.

    the controller has to be hardwired for audio to work as the xbox controller bluetooth does not allow audio passthrough.

    Jippie - fixed the problem.

    I think it has to do with a configuration update microsoft did.

    The solution is simple. Go to your audio settings and disable the "audio passthrough" option, After doing so, not turn off the xbox, but really to a cold boot. So keep the on-off button pressed for a couple of seconds.

    After the cold boot, you need to turn the "audio passthrough" function on again. Please, hang on. You will receive a pop-up asking for a extra confirm and a confirm for the blue-ray app (to ask if you want the same thing there).

    tada, everything works again on my side.

    blueray, netflix etc are in atmos again.

    Connecting my XBOX to Windows 10 PC via Bluetooth.

    the console does not even have any bluetooth hardware internally, the controllers do as they can connect via bluetooth to pc and wifi to the console.

    the reason you see the console under devices on pc is due to it being on the same network.

    the controller can be paired via bluetooth on pc but with limitations.

    audio passthrough on the controller will not work via bluetooth

    wired connection supports audio passthrough

    wireless connection with a microsoft wireless adapter for controller with support audio passthrough.

    Xbox Series S Audio Passthrough is still broken and it doesn't work for Netflix.

    I have the same issue on my Xbox Series X. Audio passthrough works perfectly fine with Disney+, Amazon Prime and Plex. When it comes to Netflix, it doesn't activate passthrough creating audio problems while playing Atmos content. The titles display Dolby Atmos, but there is no voice, only background music and sounds are played.
