How to close or exit the Xbox Game Bar?

When you play a game on windows 10 and want to stream or record a video using the Xbox Game Bar, you launch it by pressing [windows] + [G], but when you're done and exit the game, how do you close or exit the Game Bar and stop it from keep running on the
Desktop or in the background?

settings, gaming, toggle it off, the service will still be in the background as its part of windows but uses nothing.

You just need to press [windows] + [G] to close the game bar.

keep in mind that if you use the method mentioned by Tezzarrific you will need to then toggle
it back on to use it again.

Try opening a video in the YouTube app. Bring up the video controls and select the CC button on the far right of the control bar... Turn Off the closed captions in that menu. Exit the YouTube app.

That fixed it for me with the same issue in NHL Gamecenter on an Aussie Xbox.

We understand that you are having issues using 8bitdo Ultimate Controller on Xbox game app. As per description, you believe that this is an issue with Game bar overlay, and you wanted it to be disabled.

Let us check on this together and sort this out to assist your concern. However, before we proceed, we would like to ask few questions about it.

May we confirm if you are on PC and what is the current version and edition of Windows Installed? (Search for WINVER in Windows search to see this)
Are you trying it on steam?
Have you tried using 8bitdo Ultimate Controller to another app?
Was this the process that you tried to turn off game bar?

Under “Xbox Game Bar” settings,

click the switch “Enable Xbox Game Bar” until it is turned off.

This disables the Xbox Game Bar.

Close settings and try pressing Windows+G, to see if there's a pop up

So do with Xbox button on an Xbox controller, nothing will happen.
