How to check if a 2nd hand console is banned

Hello MarkC1970, you can also put your account on Xbox and try to play some online game you have in your account, if the console is banned you will not be able to connect to Live servers or play online.

You can also contact Xbox support via chat and pass the console serial number to them so they can give you some information.

No one here can really say if it's a safe buy or not but there is a risk in buying 2nd hand consoles.

There could be a number of things wrong with it,it may even be a banned console.

As Smwutches mentioned, the console ban can't be lifted. This is the typically response from the XBLPET regarding this scenario:

"Apologies, but we cannot lift bans for consoles purchased second-hand. When a console is banned, that ban remains in place regardless of ownership. Microsoft recommends only buying consoles from authorized Xbox 360 retailers. The warranty on a second-hand
console is void, and the purchaser assumes the risk for any previous modifications. If you purchase a console that has been previously suspended, you will not be able to connect to Xbox LIVE.

Sorry to hear about the bad news!

While you may not have done anything to get it banned, the previous owner could have done something. That's why it's not a good idea to buy used 360s. Unfortunately once a console is banned, it won't be unbanned. Usually you would have to try taking it back
to where it was purchased, but since you've had it over a year that may no longer be possible.

Once a console is banned then that ban will never be reversed,even if you bought the console 2nd hand.

That's the reason you never buy a used console until you've seen it connect to Xbox live.
