How to change the email on my Microsoft account with an email that already has an account

Please be guided that this is a public community forum, so we are players like you, we are not employees of Microsoft or Xbox, so we do not have access to any user account or check anything from the forum. All users help each other with common problems.

Here are the 3 important requirements when changing the email/alias of an account.

1.The desired email should not be associated with another Microsoft account.

2. The desired email should not be associated with a previously created account.

3.The desired email should be active.

Kindly make sure that the new email shouldn't be associated to another Microsoft account and most importantly not associated with a previously Created Account. When you pass this part, you will surely be able to set up a new email address to your account.

Thank you for reaching out to us on the forums. You are able to update that primary email for your account but you cannot update it with an email that has an existing Xbox account attached to the email. In this case you are unable to use email 2 for the
account with email 1 since email 2 already has an xbox account attached to it.

What I would advise is creating a new email address and then adding it as an alias for your account with email 1. You can take a look at the following support article for proper steps in updating the alias.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The reason you are getting the "this email is already being used" message is because the email you are trying to use is already set up in a Microsoft account. If you would like to use that email, you would first
have to remove it from that Microsoft account before adding it to your Primary Microsoft account. Here is a link that will help you with these steps :

If you get that message then there likely already is an xbox live account present on that email address. Do you use that email address as account on a Windows Phone or Windows 8(.1) PC? Then an xbox live account could already be present based on the outlook
email address
