  1. How to change email address for xbox account we no longer have access to?

I know this is going to be a long shot but when my brother bought his xbox, our estranged stepdad helped him created an xbox account with his email. Now when we try to log into microsoft with his account, it asks to verify by confirming a code sent to his email and/or phone number. We do not have access to either or and we cannot contact [him] to bypass the security verification check to login. We have his login credentials saved and my brother is able to use his account on his xbox online with no issues. We just can’t login into his account on a web browser. Which brings me back to my initial question if there was a way to change email addresses. I could ask [him] for the verification code but after years of no contact I just refuse. Also creating a new account won’t do any good since my brother has all his saved progress from games he’s played that can’t be transferred over.

    :)

How to change email address for xbox account we no longer have access to?

Hello, Vidal. Thanks for reaching out. I'm Lucas, an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user just like you. I'll be glad to help you out.

In your case, I would really, really suggest you to contact your estranged stepdad for a code to verify your account. Usually it is very hard to "recover" an account with two step verification on it when you do not have access to the verification methods any longer.

You will need to use an alternate method to sign in to your account(s), and then immediately turn off two-factor authentication or assign a new two-factor authentication method.

When you set up two-factor authentication you may have been given a set of one-time codes that you were supposed to save somewhere safe. Now is the time to use one of those codes in place of your verification method. That should let you into your account.

If you don’t have those codes, you can try to follow the steps on the thread below:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com...

If you still cannot recover your account following the steps above, there is no other way to recover it.

No Microsoft or Xbox employee can help you recover an account. And the account recovery form also does not work for accounts that have two step verification methods that the user does not have access anymore.

I'm really sorry about this and I hope you understand.

    Moving GamerTag on XBoxOne

We can no longer access the old account email and therefore cannot reset the password as necessary, but just entered a request for Microsoft to change the email address on that old account so we can regain access. It seems that will be necessary to be able
to effectively use this GamerID in the future. Once this is accomplished, will follow up if we still cannot figure out how to resolve this issue.

Ownership of Games between Aliases' accounts

Quick answer is Yes it will.

The only thing that it is doing is adding the new email to the account and making that email the email used to sign into the account. All purchases and everything go with the account itself.

Microsoft does this because they know people change emails and sometimes no longer have access to those email accounts like if they use the ISP for their email and no longer have that ISP they would no longer have access to that email address.

Changing email address on Xbox account, no longer have access

Hi there! This is Virginia O.

I understand that you want to change the email address of your account.

I apologize for the inconvenienced this has caused you. I will do my best to help you.

To set your expectations properly, when changing an email address/alias there is a need for you to have access to the account first to be able to make the changes to the email.

You need to reset the password of the email to be able to gain access to it and proceed with changing the email/alias.

Here are the things to remember:

Kindly make sure that the new email shouldn't be associated to another Microsoft account and most importantly not associated with a previously Created Account. When you pass this part, you will surely be able to set up a new email address to your account.

For your reference in changing your alias, please open this link: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/account-pro...

    Thank you for your cooperation.
