How to change E-mail Address tied to Xbox Live? (Not just add an Alias)

Hey All,

Just bought a new PC that comes with Xbox Game Pass.

It's worth mentioning that I have 2 Microsoft E-Mail Accounts: 1 professional hotmail account (for my main day to day stuff) and one beater hotmail account (for my Xbox Live account and various "subscribe to this newsletter for 10% off stuff).

I want to switch my beater Xbox Live Account e-mail address to my professional account (looking to digitally declutter and lose the form e-mail address).

I couldn't figure out how to change my e-mail, so I went to add my professional e-mail as an Alias. Got some weird message: "This e-mail is part of a reserved Domain. Please enter a different e-mail address." Um...what?

So I make a *new* Outlook e-mail address and add that as an Alias. So much for decluttering. All the spam e-mails from my beater e-mail address are ported over. So much for decluttering

My word is this unnecessarily complicated and beyond frustrating! And of course you can't find an actual Customer Service Number to help you.

I don't want to lose my GamerTag and would like to utilize the free month of Xbox Game Pass that came with my new PC. Is there truly no way to just update your e-mail address on Xbox live?

Is there a work around for adding a current Hotmail account as an Alias?

There isn't any other way else unfortunately.

You inadvertently created two accounts. I see this happen to people all the time. Follow these steps:

1) Go to http://www.account.live.com

2) Sign-In with the old email address and password that you had previously for your gamertag.

3) Click the link underneath your primary alias that says "add or change alias".

4) Add or Create a new e-mail address for the account.

5) Set the new e-mail address as primary once you verify it.

***Note: You will not be able to use the NEW email that you created because it is an outlook.com e-mail. Typically, you can remove the new e-mail address from the new account and add it to the old account, however, removing a Microsoft e-mail address as
the primary e-mail alias on a Microsoft Account will disable that e-mail address.***

It is wonderful what you've done for your partner's child! But don't worry, we can help you out with that!

The problem is than once an account is create, the Xbox Live profile is actually an integral part of the Microsoft Account, which cannot be unlinked. It would be like moving the e-mail inbox to a new e-mail address, and when you send an e-mail to the old address, it goes to the new e-mail address. It sadly doesn't work like that.

But what you can do is to add an alias to your partner's account. This would allow to use the child's e-mail address to access the Xbox Live profile on the old account. This is the most that can be done sadly, being necessary to create a new account if you want to complete cut the ties between the accounts.
