    How many USB controllers does the series S/X support?


    I see the Xbox series S and X have have three USB connectors for various accessories including controllers, I have some wired controllers that appear to be on the list of “works with Xbox one, S/X”, but I’d like to know:

    A. Can I populate all three slots with controllers?

    B. Do USB hubs work to expand the number of wired controllers that work.

    C. The console supports up to eight players over WiFi, but is that a hard limit to the ability to support players, or could you technically have eight wireless and a few wired?

    The last one I’m guessing is not possible but just thought I’d ask JIC.

    I found the answers I was looking for:

    A. And B. Yes you can have all three slots populated with controllers. I watched a video of someone with using two USB hubs to connect five Xbox One wired controllers to the two USBs on the back and a drive to the side USB.

    C. It looks like most games don’t support eight players do to RAM/CPU limitations and other hardware limitations.

    To bad, it would have been kinda cool to have sixteen players… though I suspect that I’d need a bigger screen. Lol

    Xbox does it support Bluetooth. It uses Wifi direct. While the controllers support it for PC connections, it is for buttons and sticks only, no chat or other high bandwidth features.

    I don’t think any game supports over 8 on a single console. While it’s theoretically possible there is no way to test it. It would likely require changes to the OS

    How you connect them should be immaterial

    Hi,

    The 3.5mm headphone jack on Xbox One/Series X|S controllers (including Elite controllers) does not work when connected via Bluetooth. It will only work via USB or the official Xbox wireless adaptor.

    16TB USB with series S

    so I connected the USB drive to my Series X and no issues at all. Which makes me think that either the series S is to weak to handle the data or has some internal limit of how many games to handle. In 2023, this is just ridiculous.
