How long does it take for an Xbox gamertag to be changed?

Once confirmed, go to https://account.xbox.com/Profile and check if your new gamertag is showing there. If not, please visit https://social.xbox.com/ChangeGamerTag and enter your new gamertag to reclaim it. You don't have to pay if it's already paid.

Hi there again, It can take up to 48hrs. I've changed mine a couple of times and it has been pretty much instant. With the Xbox having problems yesterday this could be a factor of why it hasn't changed.

You can try a hard reset that way when you start your Xbox up it should have to sync and maybe then it will take affect maybe.

To perform a Hard Reset you Hold your power button on your Xbox for 8 to 10 seconds or until it turns off. Once the Xbox is off unplug your power pack from the Xbox so it has no power running into it. Leave the power pack unplugged for 5 to 10 minutes and
then plug it back in and start up your Xbox.

When 48hrs has passed then you can try and contact Xbox directly to solve the problem.

I know it can be frustrating after paying for the GT change and it hasn't changed over.

Still hasn't changed and if I search for the new gamertag at https://checkgamertag.com/ it says the name is still available...

I contacted live support.

They refunded me my $10 and told me to try again.

It worked.
