How I got my Kinect to be recognized again!!!

So most of us that still have kinects attaches to our consoles have experienced the issue where it’s no longer being recognized after some of the recent updates.

I happened to glance up and notice that after the console did the most recent Skip Ahead update and restarted that my kinect’s Xbox light as well as the IR bars were lit up. “WEEEE!!! They must have fixed the issue!”

Nope. After my console went into standby after a few hours of inactivity, it again was not being recognized. So I decided to run through the usual troubleshooting steps for the hell of it. AND I FOUND A WORKING CONFIGURATION!

MY FIX!!!!!!

Power mode : Energy Saving (not sure if is required but since I was doing all the shutdowns and restarts I set it to this for more thorough ones)

I think this is the important one... NO EXTERNAL USB DRIVES PLUGGED IN UPON STARTING CONSOLE.

1. Shut down console
2. unplug all usb external drives
3. power on console
4. plug Kinect usb cable into back USB port closed to HDMI In (it should prompt that Kinect was found and to restart. If no prompt, unplug and replay the Kinect power cord while keeping it connected to the console)
5. select the option to restart and wait until console restart completes
6. Hipefully the kinects Xbox logo is lit up , if so go into console setting -> Kinect and devices -> Kinect to calibrate.
7. once completed, you can plug your external USB drives back into your console.

Btw for reference I have the One X console. If you still cannot get it to work, try removing all USB devices from console and do the restart and reconnect the Kinect before reconnecting the other USB devices. (I really think the other USB devices being plugged in is what’s cause if the weirdness, the Kinect acts similarly strange like this on the PC and it’s like to the USB if I recall correctly)
