How do you store game recordings from Xbox on an External Device?

I wanted to record gameplay on my Xbox One. I am using a USB 3.0. I plugged it into the console. When i navigated to Broadcast & capture in Prefences (in Settings), I set the capture location to 'External'. An error message popped up reading:

First, format this device on your PC

To capture game clips and screenshots externally, storage must be formatted as NTFS. Connect it to your PC and format it, then reconnect it to your Xbox. (0x80bd003c)'

I have already formatted the device to NTFS and my USB is USB 3.0. I tried searching the error code on the website but there were no results.

The device has been formatted to NTFS and has actually worked before (But I had to reformat it for another purpose for a short time, so I don't know if that has affected anything. It shouldn't have done because the drive is now formatted to NTFS like I said and is 3.0) I have tried both the quick format and non-quick format options on PC when trying to format the USB, however this has had no effect on it. I also tried inserting it through a USB 3.0 Port with multiple slots to see if that would change anything. It hasn't. I would rather not purchase a new one, and before I get replies to help solve this problem I will try it with a different USB to see if that makes any difference. Any answers are appreciated. Just kind of annoying how it comes up with this error message when i have already done what is required.

I have also checked and my PC does not need an update either.

    Thanks!

    :)

How do you store game recordings from Xbox on an External Device?

    Hi,

It's a USB Flash Drive with 985gb. I did format using windows and I am 100% certain the drive is USB 3.0. Not sure on the manufacturer

With game drives I've used in the past (not for media clip storage, but for actual games) I've never actually had to format them in a PC. The Xbox has always just done it for me. I had assumed to begin with that this was standard practice and the Xbox would actually offer to format the drive for me even for media storage. Is there a reason why it doesn't do that?

    Thanks

How do you store game recordings from Xbox on an External Device?

    Hi,

What 'USB 3.0' drive is it? A mechanical HDD or a USB flash drive? What's the manufacturer? How much space does it claim to have?

Did you format it in Windows? Many more well known manufacturers have their own software to format drives, especially if the drive is the HDD variety.

Is there no manufacturer label on the drive itself? How much did you pay for this supposedly '1TB' flash drive?

A 1TB Flash drive that doesn't even have a manufactures label on it raises a bit of a red flag to me as to its authenticity. There are loads of cheap '1TB' flash drives sold on the net that are in fact not 1TB at all. Also, a real drive with a capacity of yours would actually have 931GB available when formatted, not 985GB. These fake drives usually only have around 64GB free, the controller chip being modified to show a fake capacity.

If you paid less than $150 for such a drive, it's most definitely a fake drive. How much did you pay?

    tv

Are you wanting to record shows from the TV, or gameplay?

If it's gameplay, you would need an external video capture device and software to record the gameplay.

If it's TV programs, no. Live TV cannot be recorded from an Xbox One.

    recording game play onto idevices

You need an external capture device in order to record your Console. The footage would then be stored on your computer/laptop's HDD.
