How do you get Family Safety App to report location accurately (Android)?

I have the Microsoft Family Safety app installed on my family's phones. Everyone is logged in under their accounts. however, whenever I pull up the app on my phone, it can never find anyone's location. I have checked online and it appears I have all the appropriate settings turned on correctly. yet, locations are never found and even my phone doesn't appear in the Map in the family safety app.

Further, I went into the web version of Family Safety and pulled up the location map in there. Locations were posted, but were super old. For example, it showed my location that was reported 20 days ago.

How do you get this feature to work correctly?????

    :)

Microsoft Family Time is not showing members' time spent on connected devices

    Hello Georges C.,

    Thank you for your reply.

    Apologies for the delayed response.

There has been no changes to the accounts of the people in my Microsoft Family or on the Xbox console, for the members I do activity monitoring.

I don't use a PC to monitor activity or check the weekly reports; I use the Android app on my mobile phone.

To test, I did also now check the reports on a Windows 11 PC (21H2) with all Microsoft updates installed, using Microsoft Edge v107.0.1418.26 (Official build) (64-bit) - No change. I can still not see any activity or screen time usage on either my Windows 11 PC or the Microsoft Family Safety app on my Android mobile device.

I have confirmed that all apps on the Xbox console are up to date, and I have the Xbox Companion App installed on my Android mobile device (I don't believe this app provides any insight into Family Safety/screentime usage at all?).

As mentioned in my initial post, it appears that both members' activity reporting stopped on the same day, ~13th of September 2022, which suggests this may not be a per-member or a device issue, as both my mobile phone and PC are unable to view the activity reports, on email, web, and via the mobile app.

Are there perhaps any additional settings/options I can look at to get these activity reports working again?

    Seeing time played on app

    Hi Joe,

Thanks for reaching out with your question. The Xbox Family Settings application which can be found on your mobile device's app store has activity reports that allow you to review your family member's daily and weekly activity, which includes their total play time: View activity reports and notifications in the Xbox Family Settings app

If you're still having issues, the Troubleshooting the Xbox Family App FAQ provides guidance on how to get your activity reports working.

Microsoft Family Safety Report Always Wrong

Have you contacted Microsoft Support about this issue? I wonder if this is a bug that they don't know about? I use the Family Safety Reporting for my daughter and it seems to work pretty accurately.

Unable to use Google Family Link after installing Microsoft Family Safety on Android

Hi, I hope you're doing great despite the issue you're experiencing. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you in regard to your concern.

Just a friendly reminder though that the Microsoft Family Safety App is different from the Google Family link and if the Google Family Link isn't working you may need to reach out to their support.

As per Xbox, "The Xbox Family Settings app is for parents to manage their children’s gaming activities on Xbox consoles, from iOS and Android phones."
