    How do I turn off Series X controller wired to PC?


    I can't seem to figure out how to turn off my Series X controller when its wired to my PC via USB. Simply disconnecting the USB wire works, however, the moment the cable is disconnected my Series X console turns on. Holding the guide button for any amount of seconds does not turn it off when wired. Controller firmware is up to date as of this post.

    Anyone have a work around for this?
    I'd either like to be able to unplug the controller without it turning my Series X console on, or just have a way to turn the controller off while it remains connected to my PC via USB.

    Is your Xbox 360 or Xbox One/Series S/X controller? Currently, your controller does not turn on at all even disconnected from your PC?

    Xbox Series X Controller can´t connect to Windows 11 (Except via Bluetooth)

    Ok, so the problem is solved now. Here are the steps I followed.

    - Uninstalled Xbox Accesories App

    - Uninstalled all Driver in the Device Manager related to "Xbox Controller" and "Xbox Wireless Adapter"

    - Unplugged the Wireless Adapter

    - Turn off Bluetooth

    - Turn off the PC

    - Reset the Xbox Series Controller pairing (Hold connect button for x seconds)

    - Turn off Xbox Series Controller

    - Boot the PC

    - Insert the Wireless Adapter -> Drivers are installed automatically

    - Turn on Xbox Series controller

    - Succesfully paired with the Wireless Adapter!!

    - Install Xbox Accesories App -> Controller recognized :)

    - Turn on Bluetooth

    Thanks for the answer, Kathy and sorry for the delay but life prevented me from answering earlier.

    The fact that running a simple troubleshooting routine solved it points at a software issue so I don´t expect to have this problem again.

    Hope this helps someone.

    I understand you about the xbox license.

    I rather not want to have a wireless headset because I dont like charging and the battery life will decrease over time. So that leave me with two options:
    1. Wired, 3.5mm into the Xbox series x controller
    2. Wired, usb, into the Xbox series X

    I checked the microsoft store and there are only 2 compatible series X headsets. Both wireles.

    Do you know any wired Xbox series X headset? That is compatible with the series x? I prefer USB but have to go 3.5mm otherwise.

    Does this happen if you use the console on/off button?

    Is the console OS and the controller firmware up to date?
